A. On average, you can expect your roof to last 20-25 years depending on the pitch of the roof. A. In winter any heat lost from the attic has the potential to melt the snow on top of your roof. When this happens the water runs down your roof, seeps into unmelted snow and freezes. This water trapped during the melting period can seep through the roof, damaging your roof deck, insulation, and interior of your home. Proper ventilation reduces the chance of snow melting and refreezing, which causes problems.
