"We chose
Frey Construction because you are a local company - we liked what you
had to offer at our first meeting. We are very happy with the new house.
If there is/was a problem, it is/was handled and if there is/was a question,
it is/was handled right away. From design to finished product, everyone
has been very helpful. They say it's all in the detail. Jenn, Mr. Don,
and his crew all did a great job. The house looks awesome from the new
updated Kitchen with too many great details to point out to the new master
suite's cool blue bathroom. We had 50+ people to the house Sunday, 30
were in the Kitchen. Everyone loved the house."
Jim & Terry Hoffman first contacted
us in February of 2008 because they'd seen our trucks and signs around
the area – though we soon found out that we also came highly recommended
from a friend of theirs, Mabelle Ewald. When Scott & Jenn first met
with the Hoffman's, they "just" wanted new windows, siding,
roof, gutters and a master bedroom addition. After signing off on our
Design Agreement to get the whole planning process started, our architect,
Justin went to work drawing up the addition. It was decided that we would
completely remove a section of their house that was previously added
on, but was now somewhat falling off the foundation. We could then build
a bigger and better master bedroom and bath in that space. Justin and
Jenn worked together to get a layout that the Hoffman's would love, including
the placement of windows, which side the bathroom and walk-in closet
would be on and how big each of those would be. The final design featured
a large walk-in closet and a bathroom with a double sink vanity, custom
corner shower with glass surround, a skylight and beautifully original
tile work throughout the room, which was re-created directly from a picture
that Terry had torn out of a magazine. Perhaps the most talked about
aspect of the new bath was the bright blue color Terry chose for the
entire room – it definitely got a lot of "WOW'S"!
While we were finalizing a few details for
the addition, Terry mentioned that they were curious to see if we could
also add on and remodel their kitchen. Absolutely! Designing this portion
of the project took several revisions until everyone was on the same
page as to what the Hoffman's wanted, but also what made the most sense,
particularly in terms of connecting to the existing house and the placement
of a walk-in pantry. The end result has a large opening into their family
room, a conveniently placed corner pantry, a large center island, several
tall utility cabinets for extra storage and another wall of display cabinets
– with a space for their new flat screen TV!
While still in the planning phase, the Hoffman's
also decided to add on a maintenance-free deck off of their new kitchen
and have their mud room remodeled. Previously, the mud room had their
washer and dryer, a sink, toilet and closet, but the one main item it
lacked in Jim's mind was a shower. No problem – we figured out
a way to add a shower, as well as give the entire room a facelift, all
the while leaving space for the Hoffman's brand new washer and dryer!
As you can tell, this grew into quite a
project! From the construction stand point, once the old addition was
removed, we went to work excavating the site, pouring concrete and framing
up the additions. Shortly after that, we installed Gorell windows throughout
the entire house. Then, our roofing crew took over to get a new standing
seam metal roof in place. All the while, our sub-contractors were busy
working inside, taking care of all the plumbing and electrical needs.
When that was done, we added extra insulation, sheet rocked, painted
and installed a variety a flooring, including carpet, tile and Adura
Luxury Vinyl Tiles – which was recommended to the Hoffman's, as
they were extra concerned about durability in their kitchen and mudroom,
due to all the extra traffic they have. On the exterior, Crane Board
insulated siding was installed and then we finished up with our Absolute
Gutter System. Finishing touches on the inside included cabinet installation,
granite countertops and tile backsplashes in every room we remodeled.
This truly has been the most amazing transformation
we've completed! After we knew how much time Jim & Terry spent dreaming
about this renovation, as well as gathering ideas from the Parade of
Homes, other stores and magazines, we were delighted to make this all
a reality for them!
Hopefully, the cars are moving
a little faster now out on Matz Road, instead of everybody slowing down
to see what's going on, or even stopping to ask if they can come in and
see! Though, it really is a sight to see – something we and the
Hoffman's are very proud of!
